The Annual Report Toolkit
Annual reports provide the foundation for renewal decisions based on the criteria in state law. This toolkit is aligned to that renewal criteria.
Annual reports do not replace an authorizer’s formal process for considering a charter school renewal application; however, they are an essential practice for effective oversight of charter schools. Reporting annually on the performance of charter schools is an essential practice for effective oversight of charter schools. A comprehensive annual report serves three critical functions:
- Allowing for alignment of the criteria for renewal and the renewal review process.
- Indicating the likelihood of the school’s ability to make a compelling case for renewal.
- Providing charter schools with regular feedback regarding their progress toward renewal and, in the process, affording them the opportunity to take early corrective action to increase the opportunities for their charter school to succeed.
