Deeper Dive Interest Survey - Thanks for Your Input!
Thank you for your votes on the menu of optional Wednesday “Deeper Dive” sessions! Based on feedback, we will offer five choices. If your choice did not make it his year, we will try again next year! For now, though, we really need t ask for your input again! We’d love your best guess at your Wednesday afternoon plans. Will you stay for a Deeper Dive? If so, which one are you most likely to attend? And will you be able to stay afterwards for the Reporting-out & Social Hour for Die-Hards? Your answers will help CCAP arrange the meeting spaces and provide refreshments, etc. Please take a minute to let us know your thinking as of now!
About the Event
From coast to desert, CCAP conferences bring together around 150 participants, representing diverse backgrounds and expertise in charter authorizing. Join authorizing staff and board members from large, small, urban, and rural school districts, and county offices of education, throughout the state, as well as attorneys, charter school leaders, consultants, and other officials at this year’s conference.
The 2025 conference will convene June 16-18, 2025 at the Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Palm Springs. Monday, June 16, will be the optional preconference on “Charter Authorizing & Oversight 101.” The final plenary session on Wednesday, June 18, will be followed by optional opportunities for hands-on collaboration.
Conference registration is $750, but the discounted rate for CCAP members is $600. The optional preconference fee is $50.

Conference Program
CCAP traditionally gets a late burst of additional conference registrations just before the conference, and we are hoping for a repeat! We hope you can help spread the word about the conference and help nudge some “maybes” into the “yes” column. Here are a few highlights of conference offerings, in addition to the Wednesday Deeper Dives!
Optional One-day Preconference “Charter Authorizing & Oversight 101”
Monday, June 16, presented by the California Authorizer Support Initiative (CASI) — a great overview for newcomers to authorizing, a solid refresher for the more experienced, a wider lens for those whose authorizing duties may focus on one area, and the perfect orientation for the rest of the conference program.
A Strong Fiscal Strand
This strand includes an introduction to fiscal oversight, a “bring your own financial documents” opportunity to share your own data and questions with someone very experienced in charter oversight, fraud prevention and the latest on collaborative efforts at self-help in the field, fiscal oversight at the “bookends” — preopening (“year zero”) and closure, and calculating and tracking authorizing expenditures for calculating oversight fees.
Oversight and Monitoring Strand
This strand includes essential oversight steps and timelines, differentiated oversight based on school performance, simplifying reporting for impact, making the most of site visits.
Charter Life-cycle and Interventions Sessions
These sessions include year zero, renewals, corrective action plans, direct assistance, supporting charters after nonrenewable, and revocation.
Other sessions include:
- Sessions on particular entities and situations, including small authorizers, overhauling authorizing functions, creating an authorizer-charters data collaborative, nonclassroom-based schools, and “dependent charters”;
- Sessions on serving all students, including special education and English Language Development;
- Opportunities to review existing and upcoming CCAP tools and provide your feedback; and
- Role-alike meetings for larger/more urban authorizers, smaller/more rural authorizers, county authorizers, and non-authorizer partners!
Conference Sponsorship & Exhibiting Opportunities
CCAP is helping to establish a system of supports, networking, and learning opportunities to promote high quality charter school authorizing among school districts and county offices of education throughout California. The conference is the key state convening in the authorizing field, drawing around 150 district and county staff and board members, as well as attorneys, charter school leaders, consultants, and other officials. The event includes plenary sessions, concurrent presentations, role-alike meetings, receptions, and a preconference on “Charter Authorizing & Oversight 101.”
