Increasing Academic Oral Language Development: Using English Language Learner Shadowing in Classrooms
English learners need to close the literacy gap quickly in order to succeed in school. That means that listening, speaking, reading, and writing should be taught together rather than separately. They must also have scheduled opportunities to speak about academic topics throughout the day. This article discusses research showing that when teachers shadow EL students throughout the day using specific protocols, they learn how and where to schedule that time with their English learners.
