Secondary School Courses Designed to Address the Language Needs and Academic Gaps of Long Term English Learners
This follow-up to the 2010 publication of Reparable Harm: Fulfilling the Unkept Promise of Educational Opportunity for California’s Long-Term English Learners by Californians Together, describes how several dozen school districts responded to that report by creative dedicated courses for Long Term English Learners (LTELs) to address their ongoing challenges to English proficiency that hinders their academic success. Included are four case studies, essential components of the courses, materials and curriculum, structural considerations (such as class size), and student outcomes.
