CCAP and WestEd convened three CA2.0 action team meetings between August 6th and September 24th, 2020.
In a collaborative effort, action team participants consisting of district and county authorizing professionals from throughout California are developing a comprehensive set of actionable tools and resources that meet California authorizers’ varied needs, with a particular focus on access and serving English learners and underserved students.
The action team’s first focus is the charter petition review process. The new charter petition process under development uses the last CARSNet petition evaluation matrix as its foundation. WestEd developed an approach to maximize the review time of components by dividing elements into three different review categories (assurance, compliance, and quality) based on the type of review the authorizer performs.
Throughout the interactive conversation the following themes were emphasized by authorizers: build on existing systems and tools, provide specific guidance and “look fors” for authorizers, an approach that includes required elements with extensions for best practice, continue to emphasize quality and innovation even while streamlining reviews.
All authorizers are invited to provide feedback as working drafts become available and are posted.
