An Assessment of the Needs of California Charter Authorizers to Support English Learners
This report describes the results of a needs assessment survey of California authorizers asking what the California Charter Authorizing Professionals (CCAP)* could do help them strengthen practices to support English learners in the charter schools they oversee. Based on their responses, CCAP created and initiated an action plan to build this online archive of best practices and materials, establish ways for authorizers to pose questions and share information and ideas, present webinars and other remote training opportunities, and run bootcamps for new district staff and for authorizers seeking to strengthen support for their English learners.
*CCAP began this process as part of the Tri-State Alliance project with the Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers, and the Florida Association of Charter School Authorizers. The three organizations have since founded the National Network for District Authorizing (NN4DA) to support state-levels initiatives across the country in strengthening their authorizing and oversight practices.
